Cold Vengeance, Ryland & St Clair #3 by Nancy Mehl

Book description:

When a renowned crime podcaster vanishes without a trace, former FBI behavioral analysts turned private investigators River Ryland and Tony St. Clair are called upon to track her down. As they wade through the evidence she left behind, they unearth a startling connection--she may have discovered the existence of an unknown killer, and he will stop at nothing to carry out a deadly plan.

As the pair delves deeper, they soon find themselves the targets of a relentless enemy determined to silence them. With their lives--and hearts--on the line, can they confront the evil that threatens them before it consumes them both?

My review:
Nancy Mehl is an author that has gotten better and better with each book and series she has written. Her first books were good, but a few years back she seemed to really hit her stride and started putting out even better books, such as this series.

And this third and final book....wow. It is definitely a book difficult to put down. In this one, the Strangler is still after River while she and Tony work on finding a missing podcaster while investigating the cold cases she was looking into. I find cold cases fascinating, and the author came up with some that were very interesting, and laid them out very well as Tony and River looked into them.

I have liked the relationship between River and Tony throughout the series. It is obvious they care for each other more than just as coworkers and friends, and it becomes even more obvious in this final book. And yeah, Mehl finally does something about it. Nothing against the author. I actually like a series like this where the romance is on the back burner turned on low, as opposed to a couple meeting, falling in love while trying to escape a killer, and getting married at the end of  the book.  I do read a lot of them, so I obviously like them too.) :)

There were a couple of surprises the author pulled out of her hat towards the end of the book when River was.......(sorry, can't give away that huge spoiler!)

Bad guys abounded in this book, and I was tempted to think one guy was in on it, but am glad it turned out that he was not. There was plenty of suspense and drama, and a lot of investigating....which I like if it is interesting. And Mehl definitely kept it interesting.

I admit to being somewhat surprised about the identity of the one bad guy, but started to suspect him right before his name was mentioned as a possible suspect.

Mehl wrapped up this great series in a truly epic way. All three novels were great reads, but this final one was worthy of being the ending to the series. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and had to go back and re-read the ending a few times. I am looking forward to what this author comes up with next.

Special thanks to the author for an advance copy of this novel. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

Releases July 16, 2024.
