Detective Dinah Harris hunts down a serial bomber targeting religious icons and buildings. The bomber is on a mission to rid the city of religion and establish a 'new world order'. Can someone so intent on ridding the world of God experience redemption? What lies behind his hatred of God? Will his darkened soul search for pieces of light?
The first two books of the series, Deadly Disclosures (link to product page) and The Shadowed Mind (link to product page) reveal the amazing grace of God while showcasing a world losing sight of Him. In Pieces of Light, Cave’s continues her compelling story lines using believable characters and realistic situations to:
Identify the importance of living under the authority of the Bible
Deliver a Biblical worldview perspective to current events
Illustrate the power of Jesus’s sacrifice and desire to redeem every life
Provide believers a resource easy to share with skeptics
Recently, Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis described The Shadowed Mind (book two) as "another nail-biting mystery with an incredibly powerful message about God’s authoritative Word."
My review:
This book was not provided me to review, but is one I purchased, but I enjoyed the book so much that I decided to post a review.
This is the third book in a trilogy, The Dinah Harris Mystery Series, and I think is the best. It was different from most suspense/mystery novels in that the criminal/murderer became obvious very early in the book. My own opinion for the reason for that is so that she could show the inner struggles and reasoning of the bad guy.
The story in itself is great - plot, characters, the writing. As with her other two books, the author has a message to get out, and here is what I walked away with:
The church and Christians can, by ignoring wrong, hurt people worse than if they addressed a problem - and that is not to excuse the actions of the injured. But we have a responsibility to address situations, no matter who is involved.
And the other thing - no one is beyond redemption. The book had an amazing ending that moved me.
I am disappointed to see the trilogy come to an end, but with these three books, Julie has established herself as a great Christian suspense/mystery author who can write a great suspense novel, yet keep it definitely Christian in content and message.
About the author:
Julie Cave credits her parents for introducing her to books at a young age, which fostered an enduring passion for reading and writing. As a child, her favourite authors were Enid Blyton and C.S. Lewis and it wasn’t long before she began copying them, writing short stories for anyone who would read them.
At fifteen, two things happened which would shape her future: she heard a creation science speaker at her church which cemented her faith in God; and she finished her second novel-length story and realised she had fallen in love with writing novels.
After school, she completed a health science degree, got married, and worked in banking and finance. All the while she wondered how she could combine her love of writing and her strong passion for Christian apologetics and evangelism. One weekend at a church camp, a friend asked, ‘What if the guy in charge of the Smithsonian Institution went missing?’
The result – and the answer to that question – was Julie’s maiden published novel, Deadly Disclosures. Julie has one daughter and lives in Brisbane, Australia with her family. She divides her time between being a wife, a mother and an author.
Pieces of Light and the other two books in the trilogy are available from New Leaf Publishing.
I love Christian Mysteries and Pieces of Light sounds like a great mystery.
