Amazing Love: The Story of Hosea

Teenagers Steve, Carrie, Cooper, and Gameboy embark on a weekend camping trip led by their church youth group leader Stuart (Sean Astin) and his wife Beth (Erin Bethea). Joining them is teen outsider Ashley, who is materialstic and self-involved, and whose bad attitude seperates her from the rest of the group. When a confrontation occurs between Ashley and Carrie, the division widens. Hoping for a resolution Stuart takes the opportunity to share with the group the touching story of the Old Testament prophet Hosea and his example of true commitment and unconditional love. Is this powerful story enough to inspire the teens to open their hearts to such an amazing love?

My review:

I don't review many movies on here. One reason is I don't watch that many, and another is I don't receive any for review. When I post a review of a movie, it is just because I liked it.

Christian movies get a bad rap. Some are cheesy, have bad acting, and really aren't that great. Then some surpass all that and are better than we expected. Courageous and Fireproof, for example, are two such Christian movies. And you can add Amazing Love to that list.

The movie bounces back and forth between the present and Biblical times. A youth pastor is telling the story to a group of teenager he and his wife have taken camping, but instead of him just sitting there telling the story of Hosea and Gomer, it shows the story.

The acting was top notch, scenes, plot, all that was great, and the movie does a great job of showing how much God loves us by retelling the story of Hosea and Gomer. The story of a prophet God wanted to marry an unfaithful woman to show God's love.

I highly recommend this movie. No bad language or nudity. 100% clean and family friendly. By the way, a typical Hollywood production of this would have shown sex scenes or implied sex scenes. There was none of that, and I couldn't approve more of how they portrayed the story.
