NaBloPoMo Day #3.. An Ode to Becky...

OK, yesterday as day 2 of National Blogging Month, I went a bit negative, talking about my church's "black book." Today's post is positive....

My church has its own Mother Theresa. Her name is Becky Hartley. No church is perfect, but if everyone at my church was like Becky, it would be close to perfect. She is MUCH older than her photo would indicate. Rumor has it she is pushing 80.... just kidding! She is nowhere near that. :-)

She has raised 7 kids. Some of them have strayed far from their Christian upbringing, but she loves them as much as the ones who are serving God to their fullest.

She loves to entertain... and I guess I and my parents will be eating at her house for Sunday dinner... something I am looking forward to - she is an excellent cook!

This gracious lady totally lives Christ. She and her husband are on the "welcoming committee" at church - aka, "the germ squad" - and she is always at the door on Sunday mornings greeting everyone with a smile and a handshake, taking their germs and passing them on...  ;-) She sits way up front, being a great example... unless her husband isn't along, then she sheds her submissive role and sits in the back. :-)

I could go on and on, but will keep this a short "ode". Our church truly did become a better church when the Hartley family started going to our church. They are a great family, but we all know who truly runs the family - Becky. So here's to you, Becky... thanks for making our church a better place and for being our own Mother Theresa. I may give you a hard time, but I have a lot of confidence in you and Burton both, and appreciate you a lot. We all need to be more like Christ, the ultimate example, but if we were all more like you, the church and world would be a better place. (Hope that earns me seconds on Sunday!)
